Mind in place, body catching up by dancer Grace Kemp

Every once in a while you take a little breather from intensive training, or you change your style for a while to work on different muscle groups. This change can leave an aching in some muscles if they haven't been used for a while. This oh so familiar pain was felt in my legs this morning after yesterday's rehearsal. But it is a good pain. It reminds you of how your body should be moving, and thanks to muscle memory I know where I need to work and focus on for the performance. Added to this we have completed an abdominal workout so we should all be in excellent shape for the show.

The rapid work of Molly should be applauded, after 2 rehearsals she has pretty much got the choreography of the whole show.

I found working on the Elvis scene interesting today. It makes me realise how the same choreography can feel different on different bodies. Angles that work on one body might not necessarily quite right for another and working with each other to find the right way is paramount to success.

We are back! Yeeeeay :-) and this time our rehearsals are taking place in the lovely Royal Academy of Dance. Going back to the production of Baby is a joy, after all there are not many jobs where you have at least one baby in every rehearsal :-)

There has however been a change to the cast. Unfortunately, Gracie became injured training for the London Marathon, but we are today welcoming our new cast member Molly to fill the role and she is taking to the role like a duck to water.  If everything goes this well then everything should go swimmingly on the day.

Also the opportunity to revisit work is that choreography can be changed if anybody wasn't happy with a section. Ironically this 'Baby' needed to be altered in some scenes to make it stronger. This developing experience I feel in some way is art imitating life in the way a real baby would grow.

Feeling very happy on the way to the start of my Arts Council funded project to rehearse for two weeks at the lovely Royal Academy of Dance. I used to work in the dance library there many years ago and loved the environment. It's amazing to do the job you love, with people you love and have your baby alongside you. All the hard work has really paid off since my little one was born last August. One day, once this show is over, and my son is old enough to understand, I will show him the show that I made all about him.
